Today is the Queen’s 90th birthday and to commemorate the occasion we’ve joined with Co-Op to brew Ma’am, a special 90th birthday brew that is perfect for a royal celebration.
Ma’am is a glorious light golden ale (4.3% ABV) specially brewed with Goldings hops for a citrus and malty aroma, coupled with a sweet and soft taste for a light and refreshing beer. The bottle label, designed by Bedfordshire based Bonfire CI, is adorned with a Union Jack and silhouette of our longest-serving monarch, and of course, topped off with a golden crown.
Sarah Mahoney, Customer Marketing Manager at Charles Wells, says to brew a beer for our Queen was a great opportunity: “Charles Wells enjoys getting behind a national celebration and we love to create unique, one-off brews for those stand-out national events. Our last was also for the Queen to celebrate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Our ‘Diamond Jubilee Ale’ was brewed using Sovereign hops and featured as a guest ale in Stonegate Pubs across the UK.”
The British ale will be exclusively available in Co-op stores for a limited time as part of the national celebrations for Her Majesty’s 90th birthday over May and June. Richard Dennett, Senior Category Manager for Beers and Spirits at the Co-op, added: “There is a long history of ales playing a central role in commemorating the royal occasions and we think this regal brew is fit for a queen (or king)!”
