Education is at the heart of social responsibility - whether it's our head office staff, licensees, pub staff, customers or the general public. That's why we have a comprehensive education policy covering a number of different groups.
- We are committed to supporting the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) Schools Project to raise awareness of the social and physical effects of alcohol as well as the positive contribution that can be made by the licensed trade sector. We are currently offering local schools the option of incorporating the BII Certificate in Alcohol Awareness within their curriculum in 2009.
- Wherever possible, we promote the work of the Drinkaware Trust in educating people about how to enjoy a drink whilst looking after their health and wellbeing. Their education programme includes fascinating facts, the effects of alcohol, the law relating to alcohol consumption, recommended limits and an invaluable calculator that shows how many units different drinks represent.
For further information, please visit the Drinkaware Trust site.
- Challenge 21 is an industry initiative designed to challenge underage drinkers. We fully support the programme and make posters available to all of our licensees and encourage them to display in prominent positions within their pubs.
Further information is available here .
- Everyone recognises the campaign raising awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving. Charles Wells Pub Company is proud to support the Think! Don’t Drink & Drive campaign through publicity distributed to its licensees and provision of posters for display in pubs.
For further information, visit the Think! website.
- We produce a regular newsletter for our licensees and this includes regular features and profiles on social responsibility, making them aware of any new legislation and reminding them of the social and legal consequences of failure to comply.
