Eagle Aid
In 2003, Charles Wells Ltd announced a £10,000 'Community Chest' to assist local community groups and organisations with projects impacting on town and village life. Eagle Aid was born and by the time grants were awarded, around 200 applications for assistance had been received. Of these, twenty two were successful and received grants ranging from £50 to £1,250. They included health, education, disability and recreational projects.
In 2004/05 the Eagle Aid 'Community Chest' rose to £15,000. Working with partners Chiltern FM, Bedfordshire County Council, Bedford Times & Citizen, Bedford Borough Council and Mid Beds District Council, grants were considered by Charles Wells Ltd with the awards being presented at a special ceremony in April 2005.
The scheme has been updated and refreshed but still continues to support worthy causes in those communities served by a Charles Wells pub.
