Eagle Aid 2008

For the fifth year running, Charles Wells Ltd has announced that a ‘community chest’ has been made available for local charitable causes. Once again, the distribution of funds will be targeted closely at the projects that affect the lives of Charles Wells consumers most directly and a sum of £20,000 will assist neighbourhoods to work together to improve community life.

Tom Wells, Vice Chairman of Charles Wells Ltd, commented "Last year nearly 40 pubs registered for a share of £20,000 and each automatically received £545 for a good cause in their local community.  Many used Eagle Aid as a launch pad to raise additional funds for local charitable projects and I hope that will be the case again this year."

“We have an estate of around 250 pubs” he continued “and they are positioned in the heart of their community. Whether they are in a rural village or town centre, their immediate neighbours come to rely on the pub as the focal point for their community and one of the first places many turn to when they need help. We've been thrilled with the response of our licensees over the last couple of years and look forward to working with them on raising yet more charitable donations during 2008.”

All licensees running a pub within the Charles Wells Pub Company estate have been invited to apply for funding for a charitable cause that they and their customers would like to support. It may be one with whom they already have an association or one that affects the lives of the regulars – it's their decision. Every pub that responds will receive a share of the community chest for their charity and will also receive a fundraising pack encouraging them to raise further donations amongst themselves. “Effectively we are helping customers of our pubs to help the less fortunate in their own communities” continued Tom Wells. “Eagle Aid 2008 will provide assistance but it will also act as the catalyst for further fundraising.  We're expecting even more pubs to get involved this year and with a community chest of £20,000 available, the opportunities to make a greater impact on local community life are there for everyone to see.”
