Eagle Aid swoops into Action for 2010
In 2010 an increased donation of £25,000 is being offered to worthwhile projects, with all nominations being chanelled through Charles Wells pubs. The Eagle Aid community chest will simply be divided between every pub that registers an appropriate charity.
It's expected that more than 50 pubs will identify a worth cause that affects their community - whether it be linked to a personal situation, a communal project or a charity that the regulars would like to support.
Tom Wells, Vice Chairman of Charles Wells Ltd, was the original founder of Eagle Aid in 2004 and launching this year's campaign said "You read so much in the papers about the demise of the pub in this country that you start to wonder why there are any left at all. What you don't see very often is praise for the fantastic work that many pubs do in their community and how they remain the central point of villages and urban populations."
"We ask every licensee that registers for Eagle Aid to raise an additional £250 in charity donations from within the pub and provide them with some of the materials that will help get them on their way. I'm always amazed, though, at just how much they do raise and it'll be no surprise if our £25,000 hasn't been turned into well over £100,000 at the end of the year" continued Wells.
As a result of the ongoing support given to licensees, Charles Wells Pub Company has seen a record number of applicants wanting to run one of its pubs under a tenancy or lease agreement in the last year and Eagle Aid is typical of the practical measures it provides to help pubs establish themselves at the heart of their community. "We're proud to have some fantastic licensees running pub businesses with Charles Wells" added Tom Wells "and Eagle Aid provides a great opportunity for them to give something back to their regulars and put the final piece of the jigsaw in place to provide a great pub experience which is something we should all be shouting about."
Nominations for Eagle Aid will be processed through Charles Wells pubs until mid March.
