BEDFORD BUSINESSES SHORTLISTED IN NATIONAL AWARDS
Bedford based Charles Wells Pub Company has been shortlisted in two categories of The Publican Awards which recognise the best performing businesses in the national licensed trade.
The Publican provides a comprehensive information resource in the pub and bar sector through its magazine, internet and events schedules. Its prestigious awards are highly sought after and are given to the pubs and pub company’s that excel in specific areas of their business.
Charles Wells Pub Company is one of just four nationwide finalists for the Pub Company of the Year (for tenanted and leased estates of more than 200 outlets) for the second year running. It has also been shortlisted for the Corporate Social Responsibility Award which acknowledges achievement in one or more of three categories – community, environment and responsible retailing.

The significance of these achievements is further demonstrated by the shortlisting of a Charles Wells leased pub, The White Horse, Newnham Avenue in Bedford in the Best Tenanted/Leased Pub category at The Publican Awards. Licensees Nigel and Sue Anstead have already claimed a number of local, regional and trade awards and make a significant contribution to their local neighbourhood and the wider licensed trade community. “It’s great that Nigel and Sue have reached the finals of The Publican Awards for a second time as they are exceptional pub retailers” continued Wallis. “They thoroughly deserve the recognition and it’s a fantastic achievement for them to be named as one of the top pubs in the country.”
The winners of The Publican Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony in London on 24th March 2009.
