Three’s a Magic Awards Number for Cambridgeshire pub
Steve and Elaine Rogers, licensees of The New Sun Inn in Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire have triple reason to celebrate following an awards ceremony organised by Charles Wells Pub Company.‘The Eagle Star Awards’ recognise the best people and pubs within the Charles Wells estate and The New Sun Inn received the highest achievement as winners in two categories – Wine House of the Year and Best Pub/Dining Experience. They were also adjudged the best of all the finalists by claiming the crown of ‘Pub of the Year’.
After welcoming them on stage to claim their awards, Peter Wells, Managing Director of Charles Wells Pub Company said “All our finalists demonstrated a passion and commitment to outstanding standards in pub retailing but Steve and Elaine, in particular, have continued to sustain their business across all areas. They’ve produced innovative activity, maintained the quality of their products and service without compromising on standards and are worthy winners of all three awards.”
Collecting their awards, Steve Rogers commented “We first ran a Charles Wells brewery pub 21 years ago and have been licensees of The New Sun Inn for 16 years and we’re as passionate about providing a great experience for our customers now as we were when we first started out. To be named Pub of the Year is really exciting and we’re thrilled for all our team who work hard and share our commitment to excellent customer service.”
As winners of two individual categories, judges noted that Steve and Elaine strive to constantly come up with new ideas to increase wine sales both on and off trade and that their food is honed to suit their target market with attentive, speedy, friendly and knowledgeable service.
“The judging panel were bowled over by everyone who entered The Eagle Star Awards” continued Peter Wells “as they gave a strong demonstration of just how much great work is going on in our pubs. Hardworking licensees and their staff in this industry don’t often get the recognition they deserve so it’s been a pleasure to celebrate with some of our own retailers at The Eagle Star Awards.”
The ceremony was held at Towcester Racecourse and included the shortlisted finalists from the 10 individual award nominations, category sponsors, judges and guest speaker, Neil Robertson – Chief Executive of The British Institute of Innkeeping.
