Industry leaders put people first

Industry leaders representing over half of the pubs in England have come together to launch a website based on promoting the pub industry as a viable and exciting career, as well as providing a window through which to highlight the opportunities the trade has to offer.

The site has been jointly developed by the Charles Wells Pub Company, Enterprise Inns, Greene King, Fleurets, Marston’s Pub Company, Punch Taverns and S & N Pub Enterprises to help and advise those interested in running their own pub. Supported by the UK's leading pub companies, professional bodies and pub support organisations, it’s designed to inform potential entrants to the licensed trade, giving advice on both the positive and negative sides of becoming a licensee.

Whether individuals are looking to buy, become a lessee/tenant or manage a pub, www.mypublife.com is expected to quickly become a hub for a wide range of licensed trade related information.

Commenting, Caroline Hollings, Recruitment Manager at Greene King said: “The site harnesses the energy and experience of some of our trade’s best operators, who all passionately believe the pub trade should be viewed as a credible and desirable one to enter. This can be an incredibly rewarding industry in which to work; for centuries it has been core to the British way of life and something we can be very proud of as we look to the future.”

Yaser Martini, executive director at Fleurets, leading property agents in the leisure & hospitality industry added: “What other trade allows you the freedom to be your own boss; often has a low cost of entry, provides you with a home, positions you at the heart of the community, has the potential of uncapped earnings and moreover, gives you a career with no commute? People are increasingly aware that the leisure & hospitality industry does offer this variety and I’m sure with the smoking ban upon us there will be a flood of people ‘rediscovering their local’. It’s both vital that the industry is ready for that wave of new clientele, as it is holding onto the smoking contingent. As those new faces return to our pubs and the operators rise to the challenge, I’m sure many will see a career in the trade as a more credible and desirable option - I hope that www.mypublife.com can assist them in getting behind the bar.”

In addition to informing visitors to the site about the workings of the pub trade, it will also provide information on training and give people real examples of how others have entered the industry through the use of various case studies.
