CHARLES WELLS PUB COMPANY – FIRST CHOICE FOR CUSTOMERS AND CONSUMERS
Charles Wells Pub Company has emerged from a period of transition with a renewed focus on the needs of its customers (tenants and lessees) and their consumers, characterised by a new identity and the aspiration to become First choice for customers and consumers.
The company is a trading division of Charles Wells Ltd, which recently formed a joint venture of its brewing and brands division with Young’s Plc. In May 2006, the Pub Company announced the transfer of its managed houses into a wholly tenanted and leased estate and with the transfer almost complete, licensees are already benefiting from the combined operations team.
“We have undertaken substantial research in the last year” explained Pub Company Managing Director Anthony Wallis “to find out what matters most to our licensees and the consumers who visit their pubs. As a result we have introduced a marketing led strategy with a business support package to help each and every one to develop a sustainable business model for their circumstances.”
The additional support includes an improved BDM/pub ratio, skills transfer from the managed house team providing compliance and enhanced financial support and a very strong focus on marketing principles.
“Each pub now has a marketing toolbox explaining the benefit and procedures of different marketing activity” continued Wallis “and we are undertaking a review with every pub through an individual marketing plan. A seven point strategy is being introduced that is focused on working with our customers to ensure they are as well equipped as possible to deal with the challenges of running a successful pub and that their quality and customer service standards provide the best experience possible for the consumer.”
The support provided is embodied in the work Charles Wells Pub Company has already started to tackle the ban on smoking in public places. A site visit has been held at every pub in the estate to agree the best solution for that venue with the licensee – whether it be a smoking shelter, jumbrella or use of an existing outdoor area - and financial assistance provided to help make it happen. Additional interactive sessions have been held to identify other practical solutions to retain existing and attract new consumers and the company is confident that every pub will be ahead of their competitors and ready for the ban.
Visitors to Pub Business will be welcome to discuss what the recent changes mean for prospective tenants and lessees and how they can benefit from the flexible range of agreements and comprehensive support package offered by Charles Wells Pub Company.
The Charles Wells Pub Company can be found on stand 858 at Pub Business – look out for us on the Bombardier Bus!
