Charles Wells Pub Company to Present New Retailer Induction Programme

Charles Wells Pub Company is inviting anyone interested in running their own pub to visit their stand at the National Licensed Business Show (part of Leisure Industry Week) at the NEC from 25th-27th September 2007. The company will be taking part in a number of initiatives to promote its position in the leisure industry as a whole and, in particular, will present details of its new induction programme for retailers joining its estate as tenants or lessees.

Announcing their attendance, Sales and Marketing Director Peter Wells commented “We have chosen to participate at the National Licensed Business Show in September for a number of strategic reasons. The profile of the exhibition will allow us to effectively communicate the advantages, challenges and rewards of running a Charles Wells pub to entrepreneurs, leisure operators and existing publicans from across the UK. We are excited to be holding a Charles Wells Open Day during the show and will outline specialist help and advice that potential operators need to get started in our industry. It will also give us the opportunity to explain how our retailer induction programme can help both newcomers to the industry and experienced licensees to prepare for the challenges they’ll undoubtedly face in running their own business.”

The retailer induction programme was launched in July with candidates who attended the first course providing excellent feedback. It is designed to give a comprehensive introduction to all areas of running a pub including cellar management, credit control, running the back office, health and safety and staff recruitment, training and motivation. Whilst much of the course relates to general issues, it is specifically created to Charles Wells Pub Company and ensures that prospective licensees know as much about the company, its mission, values and how it operates on a day to day basis as possible.

“One of the great improvements over our previous scheme” continued Peter Wells “is the involvement of our current retailers. A number have committed to act as mentors, welcoming potential new recruits into their pubs to discover exactly what is involved – no holds barred – so that they’re under no illusion about what hard work running a pub is. They will continue to offer help and advice once the recruits have been placed in their own pub.”

A number of mentors will be at the Charles Wells Pub Company stand at the National Licensed Business Show so that anyone interested in joining the company can get a first-hand account of what it’s like working with the Bedford based company. Visitors should look out for the Bombardier Bus at Stand 5430, where they will be guaranteed a warm welcome and as much information about running their own pub as they can digest!
