PUB IDOL DELIVERS SPARKLING PERFORMANCE
Sarah Tasker delivered a sparkling performance as she sang ‘Diamonds are Forever’ to win the final of Charles Wells Pub Company’s karaoke competition last night. The vocalist also sang Elkie Brook’s ‘Don’t Cry out Loud’ on her way to winning the Pub Idol title.
A customer of The Elephant & Castle public house in Coventry, Sarah beat 12 other finalists for the coveted title, and won a £1000 holiday for two to a destination of their choice, for her performances on the night.
It was the first year that The Elephant & Castle had entered the competition, organised by Charles Wells Pub Company, and Sarah was supported by a loyal group of customers who’d accompanied her on the trip from Coventry. Although she had singing lessons when she was younger, Sarah isn’t a regular on the karaoke circuit. “I do sing pub karaoke occasionally” she explained “but I spend more time singing for charity and supporting local events. I’m excited to be crowned Pub Idol and am going to pick up some holiday brochures to choose where to go for my prize.”
“This is the 11th year that we’ve held our annual karaoke competition” explained Mandy Black, Head of Marketing at Charles Wells Pub Company “and the standard of entries has just got better and better. Indeed the judges, some of whom come back year after year, commented that marking this years’ contenders was harder than ever.”
“Karaoke remains a strong favourite with a loyal and enthusiastic fan base and is an important element within our promotional schedule. It proves to be a useful tool to draw consumers in and in encouraging them to return. We’re thrilled with the response to this year’s competition and hope that Sarah enjoys her well deserved holiday.”
The 13 finalists each performed two songs and their performances marked by a panel of independent judges, taking into account vocal excellence, presentation & performance, star quality and entertainment value. Sarah Little from The White Horse, Bedford took the runner up cash prize of £200 and third place Shelley Bacon from The Ship, Bedford claimed a cash prize of £100 in the competition which was sponsored by Smirnoff.
