BEDFORD BUSINESSES SHORTLISTED FOR AWARDS
Two Bedford businesses have been shortlisted for National Awards and are waiting to find out if they’ve taken the top accolades.
Charles Wells has been named Pub Company of the Year for the last two years and is one of four shortlisted finalists in this year’s competition organised by leading trade paper The Publican. One of the company’s pubs, The White Horse in Newnham Avenue, Bedford is shortlisted in the Tenanted/Leased Pub of the Year category and licensees Nigel and Sue Anstead are finalists in the Publican of the Year award.
“We’ve worked hard to provide the support our licensees need in difficult trading conditions” commented Anthony Wallis, Managing Director of Charles Wells Pub Company “and this has been reflected in winning the award for two years running. We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted again and would love to make it three years in a row to recognise the great pub experience that so many of our licensees deliver for their customers.”
Nigel and Sue Anstead of The White Horse in Bedford have received a number of national trade and local awards and are hoping to make it two wins in three years for the tenanted/leased pub category.
“Our loyal customers are very supportive of all the events and special fundraising activities we organise” said Sue Anstead “and we listen to what they’re looking for in their community pub. Last year we raised over £32,500 for local and national charities so we know that all our customers are behind us and see us at the centre of their community.”
Looking ahead to the Publican Awards, Anthony Wallis said “Nigel, Sue and their team at The White Horse run a fantastic operation that sums up everything that’s great about English pubs and they deserve their place at these trade awards.”
“With Charles Wells working in partnership with licensees like them, we’re continuing to develop our support services to maximise the potential of their businesses and are delighted that we can both be recognised at award ceremonies. If anyone is interested in finding out more about running their own business in a Charles Wells pub, we’d love to talk to them and explain what makes us consistently one of the top company’s in the licensed trade.”
Winners of The Publican Awards will be announced at a ceremony at The Grosvenor House hotel in London on Wednesday 6th April. Anyone wanting to know more about running their own Charles Wells pub should contact Yvonne Bates on 01234 244423 or yvonne.bates@charleswells.co.uk.
