NORTHAMPTON PUB NAMED MOST LOVED BUSINESS IN TOWN – AGAIN!
The Red Lion in Yardley Hastings has been named the ‘Most Loved’ small business in Northampton, in a nationwide search run by ‘TheBestOf’ to find the best local retailers and services in towns and cities across the UK. It’s the second year running that the pub has claimed the title and is also named 3rd most loved pub in the UK – up from number 5 last year.
The achievement was reached after nearly 200 people registered their vote in favour of the pub during a two week campaign.
Licensees Diane and Mark Hill have run the pub for 18 months and have become the heart of their community in the small village of Yardley Hastings, just a few miles outside Northampton. “We’re very lucky to have such a great group of locals” commented Diane on hearing of the award. “They throw themselves into village life and we’re proud to be able to support them so it’s great to know that we’re providing the atmosphere, offer and service at The Red Lion that they love.”
The votes and recommendations for The Red Lion cover all aspects of the great pub experience that Diane and Mark provide and include comments such as “the service was great and the food was fantastic” and “a friendly and happy venue”. But their appeal reaches far wider than the Northamptonshire boundaries – one couple who live 150 miles away found The Red Lion on the internet, took a chance on booking a table for Valentines Day and commented “excellent decision, beautiful meal, would recommend to anyone”.
On hearing the results of the latest ‘best loved’ search Peter Wells, Sales and Marketing Director of Charles Wells Pub Company that owns the pub said “Everybody is searching for excellent quality and fantastic service from whatever small businesses they use so to be named ‘Best Loved’ and receive so many votes against strong competition in Northampton is a great achievement for The Red Lion. Diane, Mark and all their team should be rightly proud of how well they’re meeting, and exceeding, their customer expectations and to have taken this title for a second year shows what a strong working relationship they’ve developed with their locals.”
As well as their recognition in Northampton, Diane and Mark were thrilled at moving up the ‘Best Loved’ table for pubs nationwide. “We looked at the feedback we received last year” explained Diane“ and continue to listen to our customers to find out what they want from their local pub. We always welcome their suggestions and I’m sure that working together in this way has helped us climb another couple of places up the national pub rankings. New visitors are also made to feel very welcome and I hope that many more will want to find out for themselves why we’ve received such favourable feedback.”
The ‘14 Days of Love’ campaign from TheBestOf generated thousands of testimonials from across the length and breadth of the country. More than 30,000 businesses drawn from almost 400 towns and spanning every business type - from hairdressers, tattoo artists, fitness instructors and bridal stores through to bouncy castles accountants, architects, solicitors - even dentists and funeral directors – all received nominations from adoring customers.
