CHARLES WELLS PUB COMPANY SCOOPS PRESTIGIOUS INDUSTRY AWARD

Charles Wells Pub Company has scooped another industry award, placing it at the top of the tree when it comes to attracting and retaining retailers to run its pubs.

The Bedford based pub company won The Recruitment Award at The Springboard Awards for Excellence, triumphing over a variety of organisations within the hospitality and leisure industry nationwide. Charles Wells also collected a second award, for Best Website, on behalf of www.mypublife.com of which it is a founding member. The awards were presented at a glittering ceremony at The Dorchester Hotel, London, last week and were the latest the company had claimed in a series of recent successes.

“The Springboard Awards for Excellence reward those who are recognised as the national leaders in the fields of career promotion, attracting talent and adopting best employment practice across the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism industries” explained Anthony Wallis, Managing Director of Charles Wells Pub Company. “Our vision is to be ‘First Choice for Customers and Consumers’ and to achieve this, we have to present the best inspiration and purpose of direction to attract the very best licensees (our customers) into our estate. In turn, we must then provide them with the support and assistance that they need to attract consumers into their pubs to experience excellent quality and customer service.”

“We have specifically targeted newcomers to the pub trade to bring new lifeblood and entrepreneurial flair into our pubs” continued Wallis. “To win this recruitment award is a great testament to the effectiveness of our strategy and we expect that the consumer will be the final winner with continually improving standards and service.”

The Springboard Awards for Excellence provide companies and individuals with the opportunity to showcase outstanding practice in addressing one of the industry’s most significant issues - attracting and retaining people. The judges of The Recruitment Award were looking for evidence of innovation and creativity in the approach to recruitment and specifically looking for initiatives that successfully overcame image, demographic, or skills shortage issues and adopted a longer-term approach to recruitment.

Anne Pierce, Chief Executive of Springboard, commented “I continue to be heartened by the initiatives employed by the industry to create a pool of talented staff of the highest calibre. All of our winners show how our industry can continue to drive forward and grow by utilising a variety of innovative methods to ensure we continue to have a productive and diverse workforce. Charles Wells Pub Company demonstrated a clear and impressive recruitment strategy and exemplified our search for innovation, achievement and evaluation.”

The Springboard Award for Excellence follows recent success for the Charles Wells Pub Company training programme, CRISP (Charles wells Retail Induction Support Programme). This was developed to prepare retailers for the challenge of running a pub as fully as possible and included input from existing licensees and head office staff together with a mentoring schedule to gain practical experience. Within its first year of operation, the course won the Best Training award at the Bedfordshire and Luton Business Excellence Awards and a highly prized British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) Nita in 2007.
