Bedford Pub Takes Further Accolades
The White Horse pub on Newnham Avenue, Bedford can’t stop winning awards and has just added another two to its collection.
The pub was named as the best in the Anglia Region in not one, but two categories at The Pub Awards ceremony organised by licensed trade paper, The Morning Advertiser. It took the accolade for Best Managed House and Best Bar Team and, as a result, is now recognised as one of the top pubs in the region.
Nigel and Sue Anstead, licensees of The White Horse attended the glittering awards ceremony with two members of their staff, in recognition of their achievements. Sue commented “Everyone’s worked so hard over the last two years and it’s fantastic to receive these accolades from our peers in the licensed trade. It emphasises how much the team have achieved and we’re thrilled to take our place as one of the must-visit pubs in East Anglia.”
At the end of last year, the couple won the Business Personality of the Year award at the Bedford and Luton Business Excellence Awards and The White Horse also received the Gold standard Beautiful Beer Award for demonstrating measurable standards of excellence in beer quality. The latest accolades prove that the pub and all its staff are genuine all-rounders.
The former managed house is now run as a highly successful tenanted business within the Charles Wells Pub Company estate and is recognised as a model of best practice by the company. Congratulating them on their achievement, Anthony Wallis, Managing Director, said “Nigel, Sue and their team provide all the elements you’d look for in your favourite local pub – a great selection of drinks served in good condition, fantastic food, welcoming atmosphere and exceptional customer service. They thoroughly deserve their most recent awards and if they continue as they are at the moment, will soon need more space to display all their trophies!”
Another of the Charles Wells Pub Company venues also received recognition at The Pub Awards 2006. The Anchor and Hope in Waterloo took the title of Best GastroPub in London, demonstrating the variety of pub styles within the estate. “We aim to be the pub company of choice for the top licensed trade retailers and, in turn, for their pubs to be the first choice of consumers” concluded Anthony Wallis. “These two pubs certainly show that it’s a realistic aim and we congratulate them on performing to such a high standard so consistently.”
