The White Horse with Personality

It’s official – the people who run pubs make them what they are and a White Horse with personality is the living proof.

Nigel and Sue Anstead, licensees of The White Horse in Bedford, have been named as winners of the Business Personality of the Year category at the Bedford and Luton Business Excellence Awards. The couple were presented with their award by former England Rugby Captain Bill Beaumont at a recent ceremony and were recognised for the significant contribution they have made in the business community and their immediate neighbourhood.

“We were nominated for the award by one of our customers” explained Sue Anstead “and we were the only pub short-listed in any of the Business Award categories. We’ve been running The White Horse together for 20 months and it’s become an extension of us, our family and our life, so it’s wonderful to have our hard work and perseverance recognised in this way.”

The Business Personality award recognised how the couple’s characteristics and qualities impact on their business and acknowledged that their role in the community runs far wider than the boundaries of their pub. As licensees of The White Horse they are also involved in the local PubWatch scheme, church activities, charitable events and their welcoming and embracing behaviour makes everyone feel at home in their business.

Anthony Wallis, Managing Director of the Charles Wells Pub Company congratulated the couple on their success, saying “Nigel and Sue have managed The White Horse very successfully for us in the last couple of years and have recently transferred to a tenancy agreement, making the pub their own business. We have known for some time that their personality and professional approach was an integral part of the success of the pub and are delighted that they have been recognised by the wider business community in Bedford. They make the pub what it is through their welcoming approach and by providing superb quality and service. The award is well deserved and will propel their early months of pub tenancy forward.”

Recognition by the Bedford business community comes hot on the hoof of trade recognition, with The White Horse receiving the Gold standard Beautiful Beer Award just a few weeks earlier. This honour is given to venues that can demonstrate measurable standards of excellence in beer quality and so enhance the consumer experience of beer drinking. Nigel and Sue Anstead are therefore thrilled to invite newcomers to discover the excellent beer quality and personality of The White Horse for themselves.
