RAISE A PINT TO CASK BEER AND BREAK A WORLD RECORD
The search is on to find thousands of willing volunteers from across the UK to witness a world record attempt.
The nation’s pubs and cask beer brewers are aiming to set a new world record by raising a toast to Britain’s national drink, cask beer, at 7pm on Saturday 11 April 2009.
The landmark event is part of a week-long festival, National Cask Ale Week, which is taking place from 6-13 April 2009.
There are around 25,000 pubs in the country that sell cask beer and they are all being encouraged to take part in this great national toast. But in order for the world record to be valid each pub needs two independent witnesses to confirm the activity has taken place.
Fiona Hope from National Cask Ale Week, who is galvanising support for the record breaking attempt, said: “Cask beer is a national treasure, it is a crafted, fresh product that uses natural ingredients and is unique to the British pub.
“Going for the World’s Biggest Toast is a fun way to show the world Britain is proud and passionate about its national drink. Not only do we need as many licensees involved as possible, we also need witnesses to legitimise our attempt. Most importantly, however, we need as many people to visit their local on 11 April and in true sporting style rally behind our pubs as they do our national teams to raise a toast for cask beer.”
Witnesses need to be over 18 years old and of course be able to be in their local participating pub at 7pm on Saturday 11 April.

National Cask Ale Week is taking place from 6-13 April 2009 and will see thousands of pubs and cask ale producing breweries throughout the UK staging a range of activities from beer and food matching to free brewery tours.
